PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
